This is the last dash before the main stage of the treatment for one of the new patients of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Vasyl. Recently he vent through the preparatory surgery. During the surgery, doctors of The Ilaya Clinic prepared recipient’s bed, processed and prepared both ends of the injured bone for an implant of the bone matrix and application of cellular material.
Vasyl has to recover for some time after the surgery. He will spend this time at home, with his family. In a few weeks he will come back to the clinic. After a medical examination doctors will determine the exact date of the subsequent stages of a treatment.
We visited Vasyl during the recovery from a painful surgery. Pain and a long period of a treatment in vain does not bring happiness. Only at the project Vasyl got his hope for a recovery back.
Vasyl is quite calm man from Zhytomyr region. He has a little household at home. In books people like him are called the “salt of the earth”. For the first time he been called to the ranks of the Army for 10 days. However, when he received a brand new uniform he understood, that 10 days will continue for much more. First for a month, then for a few weeks more, and then he lost count. Vasyl served at the tank forces. Fierce struggle begun really fast. Ukrainian soldiers of the 30th Separate Mechanised Brigade, like Vasyl, been protecting Donetsk from the enemy invasion.
Vasyl told us about the mess, which took place during the first year of the war. The Army is disorientated, headquarters confused, and zero logistics. Soldiers had to worry, how to cover their needs by themselves. He told us about the villages, burned by the war, abandoned houses, animals calling for owners, who run away from the attacks. About the war Vasyl speaks with a genuine pain in his voice. He feels sorry for the whole fields of wheat, which were burned, when tanks fought back the enemy.
Vasyl was injured during the powerful enemy shelling near Stepanivka, not far from the Savur-Mohula. Fragment hit his right hand, broke the nerve and crushed the bone. He has been treated at public hospitals for 2 years in vain. Severe fracture did not fused, nerve did not recovered, injured hand shortened on 4 cm, and got twisted. Doctors shrugged their shoulders answering the question “Whats next?”. Suddenly Vasyl realized, he was on the verge of amputation, and it was no solution for this at public hospitals. Fortunately, one of the neighbors at the hospital suggested him to contact The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project. Vasyl accepted the advice, and joined the project after the initial examination.
Before Vasyl joined the project his right hand was injured, bone not fused and shortened
In terms of The Biotech Vasyl got the bone stretched and brought to a usual position. Also, it was prepared for further bone transplantation. With some time cellular material, which are now prepared at the laboratory, will restore the integrity of the bone completely, and bring back a significant part of its functionality.
Vitaliy came to the clinic during our conversation with Vasyl, to receive medical procedures. He literally bombarded Vasyl with jokes and frowns, which made him smile.
Suffering from his own wounds, Vitaliy is been an important recovery factor in a room. He laughs at tell jokes, and laugh heals
For the treatment of Vasyl volunteers of The People’s Project have to pay at the expense of your donations, since the government does not finance modern and effective cellular treatment. The full amount is over 450,000 UAH. Most of it we already gathered. Employers from the Wiedemann company, where Vasyl worked before the war, and our colleagues from the Charitable Fund “Овес” helped a lot. The treatment continues, and soon we need to transfer the remaining amount, to threat Vasyl. That is why we once again call you to help. Your donations in terms of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project help us to return Vasyl and other patients of the project to a normal life. Ukrainian defenders deserve our support.
