Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded

The battle for Petro. The first stage is almost over. Your help is needed

A significant stage of our joint effort is coming to an end, and we have a lot to report about. The wounded defender Petro, who we together protect against amputation, with help of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project, completed the first operational stage of a treatment. Petro spent at the clinics about a month, and went through 4 surgeries. That is a lot. However, considering the size, and condition of the injury, this is a required minimum of the surgical intervention.

2

Petro, who friends and family call “Tiger”, stepped on an anti-personnel mine on May. Despite the young age, he joined the Army voluntarily, and fought for a long time. He served at the industrial zone of Avdiyivka, where the disaster happened during the reconnaissance operation. His wounds are healing, and body strengthening according to the plan of the doctors of the project. A controlled preparation to the second stage of the treatment is in progress.

5

Petro’s foot was torn by an explosion. The doctors of the military hospital were capable to only assign a date of an amputation. Let’s be honest, we do understand them, because the wound is terrible, and it impossible to cure it with help of a conventional medicine. Just to let you understand, what we have encountered, we will show you a photo of the primary wound at the beginning of the treatment within the project. The photos are shocking.

Volunteers rescued Petro right of the operating table, and brought him to the “Biotech”. Surgeons of The Ilaya Clinic immediately started their job with Petro. First, they did their best to save all that can be saved, and then proceed with the restoration of the bones.

7

Last Friday we came to visit Petro. He got noticeably better. At the beginning his face was gray, and he quietly moaned, because of a fear and a pain. Now he has changed even from the outside. He shines, laughs, and brags about his leg. What is important, that after the first surgery, Petro was able to move the toes of the injured leg.

Today, the amputation is off the table. During 4 plastic surgeries, the doctors of the project compensated a significant defect of the soft tissues of Peter’s feet. At the same time, biotechnologists sampled his bone fragments, and cellular material.

5

While Petro’s muscles and skin recovers, and he strengthens and rests, cellular material will do everything necessary for the further treatment. Now Petro is at home. He is resting, and recovering in the family circle. In the next few days he will be visiting the clinic regularly, to let the doctors control the recovery, and healing of tissues.

1

Prediction of doctors for a success improved. Even Volodymyr Oksyments gave an injury 50%/50% professional doubt before, and now the chances for a successful result increased up to 70%. We sincerely hope, that the effort of Volodymyr Oksymets, his excellent team, the experiences of the whole volunteer community and a support of people will help to get Petro back to normal life.

3

During the visit we met with an interesting person. Twice demobilized Major of the Armed Forces, who served as a sapper-scout at the hottest spots of the ATO, Dmytro joined our team. Taking advantage of the opportunity, we not only organized a meeting between Dmytro and Petro, but also spoke with him about the specifics of a mine war. We heard a lot of interesting things from Dmytro.

Also, we met Andriy at the clinic. He joined “Biotech” 3 years ago with a wounded leg. The fragments of the enemy’s Grad torn the leg apart. Conventional methods of treatment were useless, and terrible fracture did not grew back together. The doctors started talking about amputation.

1

Today Andriy is cheerful, smiling, and confidently walks on his own 2 legs. He came for a control examination, after 2 years since the application of cellular technology. Everything is fine, there are no complications, side effects, tumors or a third leg, as skeptics assumed. Thanks to the support of people, and faith in doctors of the project, Andriy got back to normal life. Just read, what he had to go through.

6

Yesterday Petro celebrated the end of the treatment. He was sent home to recover, so he already celebrated his 24th birthday in the family circle. A small apartment in a matter of minutes filled with a crown of volunteers, friends and companions. Petro’s charisma attracts good people to him.

7

Now, a few words about the pragmatic side of the case. The chance, to restore Petro’s leg after the injury is quite expensive. Since the treatment was planned in 3 stages, we also divided the payment into 3 parts. The first stage turned out to be the most expensive – it will cost more than 500,000 UAH. Comparing to the cost of prosthetics, further maintenance and social payments, this amount is almost nothing. To walk on your own legs is much better, than helplessly limp on the prosthetics and crutches for the rest of life.

8

Friends, relatives and volunteers. Petro gathers all good people around him

With your help we have already paid a significant part of this amount. Today we will pay an additional 50,000 UAH. This way, the amount, which remains to completely cover the first stage of the treatment, is only about 80,000 UAH more. We sincerely hope for your support. The government stands aside, and its only option is amputation. With your help we can turn Petro back to health. We ask you to join the project. Each dollar of a charitable contribution to The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project brings Petro closer to his small, but important victory.
