Great news for our ATO hero Yuriy.
The doctors at the ilaya Medical Center positively identified the process of regeneration of the soldiers humerus after examining X-rays taken one-and-half months after treatment began. In particular, integration of implanted material with bone fragments of humerus was observed in the images.
In brief about the treatment of the special forces soldier Yuriy:
The soldier was admitted to the project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded in October last year with the diagnosis of a defect of humerus of 12 cm. On October 8 his bio material was gathered and on December 9 a sequestrectomy of his left humerus (extraction of gangrenous tissue) was performed to prevent the spread of osteomyelitis .
General surgery on the shoulder bone was carried out on February 6. During the surgery, doctors removed the rotational component, prepared the recipient area and implanted an autologous cell-tissue material bone block that was fixed with a LCP plate. Now the fighter is recovering at home, under the supervision of physicians and orthopedists. According to the doctors, if necessary, in time, Yuri might need to undergo wrist arthrodesis.
Yuriy was injured last summer during a firefight with the enemy near Red Lyman. A few months later he was treated for numerous injuries in military hospitals, but his shoulder bone defect could not be treated with conventional methods. Therefore, the coordinators of the Ukrainian Volunteer Center People’s Project helped the soldier get treatment using stem cell technology and provided the necessary funds to the amount of UAH151,921.
