The wounded serviceman of the 80th Air Assault Brigade Petro who had got a severe injury near the village of Pisky, is recovering thanks to the treatment he is undergoing within the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project. Since February of 2017 he has been suffering from the consequences of the shotgun injury to his left leg. The 25-years-old guy was undergoing treatment at conventional hospitals for about half a year. He underwent seven surgeries but despite the hopes of his doctors, the bone did not fuse up. Moreover, the fighter’s leg shortened by 3cm, and the foot gone crooked to another side. Limping seemed the only outcome for Petro.
Still the serviceman did not give up and decided to try the newest rehabilitation techniques, which unfortunately are neither sponsored nor supported by the state institutions. Thanks to the friends of ours and our close partners, the Helping Is Easy charitable foundation, Petro’s treatment was financed in full. The guy immediately underwent a prolonged complex surgery. The doctors at ilaya clinic dissected the remains of the bone, leveled the surfaces and put them into the proper position having fixed the structure by means of the Ilizarov apparatus. All this resulted in placing the deformed tibia in its natural position. In two months’ time, due to application of the apparatus, the fighter has stretched the tibia up to three missing centimeters on his own.
Recently, Petro had his regular check-up. The doctors informed him that the new sector of the bone has been strengthening quite well. But the main point is that the bone started to fuse up. This means the defender got the chance to get back to walking. The apparatus of external fixation will remain in the guy’s leg until the complete recovery. Petro’s next medical examination is due in late August. He is looking forward to making his first steps then.
Our ward Petro sets a good example of a true defender. Since the very first days of the war he moved to Donbas with the 80th Air Assault Brigade. Together with his comrades he went through all the hottest spots: they fought for Luhansk airport and its outskirts; held defense in Pisky in the Donetsk airport vicinity. Once he recovered from the injury that he had got in 2014, the guy immediately went back to the forefront. The volunteers just could not allow the hero to remain disabled. Thanks to combined efforts of many we managed to pay for the veteran’s treatment in full. Still there are more defenders awaiting our support. Dear friends, please do not stay aside from their needs! Let us together support our heroes and help them to get back to full life!
