Great news for the participant of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Sergiy, who goes through the active phase of the treatment process and needs the financial support to pay for medical procedures. A fund rise started, and this call for help was actively reacted by people abroad of Ukraine. Into the account of The People’s Project it was transferred a significant amount of money from the Ukrainian community in Spain.
For the treatment of Sergiy it has been collected 2,000 EUR from the Community of the Province of Alicante called ‘Who but us‘. Another 1,000 EUR was donated by the Ukrainian Association of Tarragona and province called ‘Khortytsya’. With help of the parishioners of the Church of Valencia and province it was collected 2,400 EUR, and another 1,300 EUR with help of the parishioners of the Church of St. Dmytriy in Seville and it’s province. The report represents donations in different currencies, which in total amount is 6,700 EUR. Nowadays, thanks to the donations from the Ukrainian compatriots in Spain, it was paid a significant part of the required expenses. The remainder of the amount is expected to be collected through the sponsorship contributions and donations.
Now it can be said, that before the treatment Sergiy’s femur was completely ruined
At this moment Sergiy is getting ready for the main stage of the treatment. His wanderings through the hospitals lasted for almost two years. Sergei was injured during the defense of Debaltseve in February of 2015. Serious injury and concomitant osteomyelitis almost destroyed Sergiy’s femur. The area of a complex defect is 13 centimeters wide. The remnants of the bone are held together with the help of a huge orthopedic pintle. The specialists of The Ilaya Clinic preparing cellular materials to install special bone matrix into the injured area of the bone and fill it with medical gel saturated with patient’s own cells. It is a high-tech method of treatment that in a short time allows to turn injured bone into a monolith.
The first stages of the treatment that really helps
It is so pleasant to mention, that the Spanish community provide significant financial support for wounded Ukrainian defenders again. The Ukrainian compatriots closely watch and worry for the wounded soldiers, even from abroad. With the support of Ukrainian community abroad, dozen of our the wounded Ukrainian soldiers like Sergiy, get an opportunity for rehabilitation and treatment in best hospitals of the country. Dozens of thousands of euros were collected with the help of the Ukrainians of Spain for wounded Ukrainian defenders. This amount finances group rehabilitation courses and surgeries of individual patients. The subject of support received from the Ukrainian communities abroad is so vast, that deserves a separate story, which will be posted a bit later.
Even a sizable contribution like the one mentioned above is still just a part of the amount that is needed to cure wounded Ukrainian defenders. The Ukrainian government does not finance innovative therapy. That is why the donations collected through The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project are so important for soldiers, whose state of health does not allow to delay the treatment. And that is why high-tech treatment procedures can be payed only with the help of people’s donations.
