School of Military Divers

The School of Military Divers joins in to saving doctors

An inventive mind will always figure out where exactly to take on a useful activity with maximum effectiveness. Volunteers of the School of Military Divers project have been actively involved in the recent events and offered their own ways of protecting doctors in the context of the present coronavirus pandemics. In particular, the co-founder of the project, Kostyantyn Myrhorodskyi, who is good at the technologies of respiratory tract protection, adopted the method that had been developed abroad, application of snorkeling masks as a means of protection.

Italian engineer Alessandro Romayoli shows a mask with valve for connection to ventilator

We would agree that at the first glance, it may look a little bit weird. But the doctors to whom we talked and thoroughly consulted on this matter, unanimously stated that the method is truly excellent, and in the current circumstances is probably one of the best ways of protection a person against the virus. A transparent wide-angle face-embracing mask is able of covering all nasal, mouth and eye mucous membranes while a special membrane filter purifies the air even from viruses. This is a really great tool for working in areas of the highest contamination which can replace a mask, shield and eyeglasses at the same time, and all this at affordable price.

And this is Kostyantyn himself. The picture was taken at the first stages of the project, so the valves were not ready yet

At the moment, Kostyantyn and his colleagues are not only fine-tuning the technology, but also preparing the first batch of ready-made protective masks for application. Upon certain upgrade, the mask can be used both by doctors and for non-invasive, without intubation, oxygenation of patients on a ventilator. To put it simply, medics will be able to put a mask on a patient and thus provide him with a controlled flow of oxygen without further intervention. And yes, the volunteers are aware of the risks so took into account all the doctors’ remarks regarding application of such gear; moreover, the doctors themselves expressed their willingness to help try and improve these products in practice: starting from Monday we are going to tell and show you all the details as to how it goes.

In view of an acute shortage of necessary equipment, doctors are forced to invent newly minted ways of saving people. But who would dare to say that a specialized mask serves worse than a plastic bag over a patient’s head?

Within the School of Military Divers project, we have already purchased the first 20 masks and paid for their equipment via the Second Front initiative. As of today, according to preliminary estimation, we got requests from doctors for several hundreds of such kits. But apart from this latest initiative People’s Project still needs engagement of everyone willing to support the rest of our doctors’ needs. We have been actively buying less technological but essential protective gear like suits, goggles, respirators, and even such consumables like gloves, masks, and shoe covers for physicians at hospitals and infectious units. So, dear friends, we kindly ask you to join our projects and affordably support them either with your pennies or at least with sharing the info.

Dear friends, let us reiterate that none of us is protected against the disease, and in case something happens, it is our doctors  who will need to save our lives. Hence, to keep them protected from getting infected and give them the opportunity to stay healthy for as long as possible is our primary goal. So guys, please join in. This is the second front where everyone is at war.
