Yesterday Vitaliy, a young tankman with the 28th Mechanized Brigade, has undergone another surgery. This time the «Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded» project’s doctors have removed an external fixation apparatus from the guy’s foot.
The Ilizarov apparatus was mounted on Vitaliy’s leg about two months ago. During this period of time it had to gradually stretch the Achilles tendon that had shortened due to prolonged immobility. The apparatus has worked out perfectly, and the latest examination testified considerable progress. Now the tendon has proper length which is likely to significantly improve the bending abilities of the ankle joint as well as of the foot in general. That is, this will accelerate healing and make a wishful moment when the guy is able to step on his own foot in full, closer.

For some time following the removal of the apparatus Vitaliy will need to wear a gypsum plaster aimed to lessen the workload on the foot. Next time we will meet him in the upcoming year, at his regular checkup. Actually, why to stay in the hospital when a beautiful young wife and a newborn daughter Ivanka are waiting for the hero at home?
Today Vitaliy has headed home where he will be engaged in his family matters and training of his leg. The doctors will observe his rehabilitation remotely.
