On June 10, injured border guard Serhiy underwent one of the largest done defect replacements in the history of our project – 14 cm! At the site of Serhiy’s tibia defect autologous cell-tissue material was implanted in the form ofa fixed bone block and a LCP type plate.
Serhiy, as well as his doctor, hopes for a speedy recovery from surgery and his next X-rays show positive results. However, as typical of Serhiy, it is “cautious optimism.”
The People’s Project team wish Serhiy a quick recovery!
We remind readers that on September 21 last year due to a direct bullet strike Serhiy was seriously wounded. As a result the fighter lost 14 cm of his tibia. Stem cell technology was the only way to quickly and efficiently heal such a defect and return the leg’s ability to support weight.
Victoria Krotovа, a volunteer from Odesa took care of Serhiy. She immediately sent the soldier for treatment once she had learned about the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project.
Since then, doctors have performed painstaking work “cleaning” the wound site and preparing the recipient bed.
And, now, the next step is to cultivate cells!
We hope they can work their magic on the hero as soon as possible!
