Recently Yuriy came ever to see us, the volunteers at People’s Project. The man is the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project’s very first patient. Actually, we wrote about Yuriy a couple of weeks ago: the matter is, Yuriy rushed things a bit having given too much load to his arm which resulted in partial replacement of the fixing plate keeping his shoulder bone joined while fusing up. Well, Yuriy had to visit the clinic once again for removal of that plate and additional filling the injured area with cell materials. This will allow him to restore faster as well as to strengthen and get better in general.
Meanwhile, we took the opportunity to discuss various life topics with Yuriy. We even had a mini streaming which you can see on Maxym Riabokin’s page. Yuriy admits that not everything in life is as easy as it could, still his body has been progressively recuperating. For the next two months his arm will stay encased in gypsum plaster for Yury to remain totally safe and following the surgery. Yuriy himself is determined to avoid the slightest traumatization: in his own words, he will dig into the sludge like a goldfish with no training, exercising or active work until his arm healed up completely. Then he is going to continue going in for sports, still with reduced intensity, with emphasis on durability rather than on physical strength.
A fighter of the legendary 3rd Regiment of Special Forces, Yuriy was ambushed and got into shootout yet in 2014. Enemy gunfire destroyed his arm, hit the spine and damaged the nerve which resulted in paresis of the leg (a significant weakening of muscles bordering with paralysis). Nobody could prognosticate recovery. Within the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Yuriy’s shoulder was surgically restored using cell technology. Apart from this, the doctors additionally applied cell materials – the concentrate made out of these served for restoration of the leg’s sensibility and enhancement of its functionality. You can get informed about the whole course of the process following the link.
Now the main course of Yuriy’s treatment has reached its logical finale, and the cells have performed their work. The next step will be rehabilitation or – possibly – correction of the condition using traditional medical means. One cannot say that Yury has become able of high jumping or playing football in full – honestly, even walking for long distances takes him too much. Still, thanks to your support the man got the possibility to improve his abilities – he could hardly do this if he wore prosthesis on his arm or his helpless leg. Your compassion presented him with a chance, and Yuriy is eager to use it for the whole 100%. Yuriy is the Biotech’s first but not the last patient, so we urge you not to stop. It is a true reward to see how your support gives chances to heavily wounded fighters, isn’t it?
