“I want you all to hear us!” – clearly spelled out phrases loudly sound in a gloomy urban yard. – “Cherkasy local community has come to you!”. A huge guy with a megaphone makes a big pause, looks at the people around, and suddenly speaks up: “You have a DEVIL among you!”. This is the meeting of active citizens: the participants of the civil movement humiliate a local scoundrel. Let’s be honest: we are not interested in the scoundrel; he is to be treated right by the community. But we know the speaker very well.
Oleh (right) and his comrade attending another meeting
With the hair red like fire and the similarly brave soul, Oleh is an old friend of ours. A few years ago he got close to death because of a horrible leg fracture, with his face colorless because of continuous intake of pain-killers. Now he is sanguine, sturdy, and walks confidently on his own legs. Oleh broke his leg in the war to where he volunteered to defend his homeland.
The dynamics of recuperation in X-rays: from the time when Oleh joined the Project to full completion of treatment
He was hit by a bullet near Sartana where a scouting unit of the Azov volunteer battalion got ambushed. The terrorists shelled our guys heavily using machine guns, and one of its bursts hit Oleh’s leg. One and a half hours later he was evacuated to a hospital in Mariupol. The guy was given first aid and then transported to Kyiv. Unfortunately, the leg failed to fuse up for certain period of time: doctors tried to put together numerous parts of tibia by means of the Ilizarov apparatus, but they just refused to keep together.
It was the Biotech that proved effective: the doctors of the Project sorted out all parts of the bone, placed them into a physiological position and immersed them into special medical gel that constituted concentrate of Oleh’s own stem cells. Application of this revolutionary then method allowed to fully restore the young man’s leg: shortly, it began to look and feel like a brand new one. You can read the full story of treatment and its chronology following the link.
Now to what all this is about: today, instead of scuffing with crutches or limping with a prosthesis, Oleh is confidently walking on his own legs. And he not just walks: he actively goes in for civic activities and sports. For example, according to the guy’s own postings in social networks, lately he has scored brilliantly in rowing. One should keep in mind that rowing presents huge workload for tibia in particular. Oleh also participated in Kyiv Chestnut Run, and now he is going to take part in the legendary Invictus Games.
But what do you think proved the most effective tool in Oleh’s recuperation? Naturally, the application of innovative technologies matters. Still mainly it was the confidence put by everyone in the guy. If it was not for faith, we, the volunteers of People’s Project, could not have convinced the fellow who had stopped believing in successful recovery, as well as we could not have persuaded you to support him. Because the full course of Oleh’s treatment was paid off at the expense of your donations. And since the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project has not been finished yet, your help and donations to it will always stay appropriate until the last patient leaves the clinic on his own legs.
