The left hand of wounded 93rd Brigade soldier Andriy successfully restored. Four months after his primary operation the 2nd and 3rd metatarsus bones have fused and Andriy can actively begin to use his hand. We are delighted by this news and hope Andriy can put the injury behind him.
Andriy is an entrepreneur Dnipro. At the beginning of the war he voluntarily joined the military even though, as a father of three children, he could avoid mobilization. He served as a part of the 93rd Brigade and was injured in October 2014, near the village of Pisky during a mortar attack.
Andriy received numerous injuries and underwent several operations. However, the broken bones in his hand did not fuse for a year. Fortunately, he learned of the project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded and, realizing that this was his chance for recovery, appealed for help. In December 2015 Andriy enrolled in the project for the treatment of the nonunion fracture of the 3rd metatarsus bone and the fracture and improperly spliced 2nd metatarsus bone.
Treatment fighter for the project began on December 10, 2015, when sampling of cellular material was conducted and the alignment of the axis of the bone at the site of injury. The primary operation was executed January 27, 2016, when into the soldier’s hand 3D-gel chips of osteoplastic material and autologous stem cells were implanted to treat the fractures.
The costs of treating Andriy with the medical center discount 39% accounted for 217,274 UAH. Half of this funds Andriy wished to make on his own. The other half was raised by The People’s Project thanks to your donations. We are very grateful to everyone who helps injured Ukrainian defenders to return to a normal, healthy life. Now the project has two fighters for whom money for treatment is not collected. There is also the need to eliminate defects and to remove additional fixing plate from some soldiers. In addition, the project will soon enroll several more soldiers with injuries that urgently need to healed. Your help is needed, without it we are powerless.
