Just recently one more patient of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Andriy went home after the additional surgery for his arm. This is the last surgery performed according to the treatment plan. During the surgery Andriy had an orthopedic plate removed, because the bone has fused enough. Doctors also released tendons from adhesions, performed a partial plastic surgery, and slightly adjusted their form. Now Andriy can develop injured hand without any restrictions, and it has all chances for a complete recovery.

Andriy is a volunteered soldier of 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. He received his injury in 2014, when one of the debris from the enemy mine severely damaged his left wrist and torn soft tissue. The treatment in military hospitals did not help. One bone twisted and fused, and the second did not fused at all. Also, tendon has not fused either.

In terms of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Andriy’s bones were set into a right position, injured area filled with cellular material made from patient’s own stem cells. With a time bones perfectly fused, and tendons restored during plastic surgery according to the plan. Further rehabilitation is a job of Andriy.
Treatment of Andriy was made possible by a joint effort. Half of the amount was collected with help of donations to The People’s Project. The other half Andriy payed himself. Before the war he had his own business, so had some savings. The government allow to finance only conventional medicine treatment, which is useless in treatment of seriously wounded defenders of Ukraine. This is why thanks to people’s donations there is a chance to return to normal at least part of seriously wounded patients.
