The latest medical check of one of the patients of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Andriy stated that treatment and recovery took place in full accordance with the plan. Andriy’s left tibia completely recovered without any complications and there are no contraindications against full loads for Andriy’s left leg from now on. The next steps are some rehabilitation exercises and normal life. Out of habit, Andriy still hold the crutches, but the doctor advised to refuse additional support and feel free to load the leg up.

Andrew joined The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project a year ago. He was injured in the battle near Izvaryne in 2014. The body of a man was seriously wounded with the debris from a close explosion. The patient got to The Ilaya Clinic with the severe fracture of the left tibia infected by the osteomyelitis, and curvature of the left foot. The volunteers of The People’s Project almost immediately collected over 350 thousand UAH of donations and paid for the treatment of Andriy.

During the next six months medical experts have selected samples and prepared cellular material, overcame a bone infection and fixed the Ilizarov apparatus to align the axis of the broken bone. The fractured place of the bone was filled with cellular material, which eventually turned into a monolithic bone. In August, Andriy had the fixation device removed and started to load the leg up steadily. Now the control examination had shown that the leg is completely healthy, and the patient can forget about the hospitals.
