After one-and-a-half months in the preliminary treatment phase, Myhailo’s collar bone loss is showing signs of active bone regeneration as an x-ray taken at the end of January showed.
According to the soldier’s doctor, integration of implanted autologous cell-tissue material with fragments of the collar bone is clearly visible in the x-ray.
Myhailo suffered a gunshot wound to his right shoulder leading to unco-ossified fracture of right collar with bone loss of up to 5 cm. This defect has not been restored using traditional methods of treatment as the unco-ossified collar bone had deprived him of normal hand function – the fighter could not even hold a cup in his right hand.
Myhailo’s treatment within the “Bioengineering rehabilitation for wounded” project began on November 11, when he gave a fence (sampling) of cellular material for further preparation at Ilaya Medical Clinic’s biological laboratories. On December 12 the soldier had major surgery for bone defect replacement with autologous cellular material that was fixed in place using an LCP plate.
Thanks to your contributions the full amount, 167,931 UAH, needed for treatment was collected. We are waiting to get all soldiers being treated under the project together to talk us through their treatment processes and how they feel now.
