Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded

A gift to remember. The patient of the project got old screw removed

Participant of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Volodymyr went through one more surgery. He had a piece of a broken screw, that was sticking out of femur removed. Volodymyr rested a little bit and strengthened between the stages of primary treatment, so his body condition allowed to perform this additional surgical intervention. A piece of a broken screw from the previous Ilizarov apparatus was left in the bone during dismantling. Removal of the screw will allow Volodymyr to fully develop his knee joint.

Sanitation of post-surgical wound.

Great news about Vitaliy (on a background) we will tell tomorrow

Volodymyr goes through the treatment process for almost 2 years. One of the fragments of enemy’s Grad missiles hit him at the entrance to the dugout, when a soldier almost escaped the explosion. Piece of iron severely injured Volodymyr’s leg. It broke his hip, and ankle. Severe fractures were treated with help of a conventional medicine. After 16 surgeries Volodymyr understood, that traditional methods will not help, so turned for help to The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project.

A constructions doctors of the project made

In a public hospital severe osteomyelitis was defeated, and a defect of tibia was fixed with a piece of a splint bone. However, this solution was rather decorative. Such support could got broken at the slightest exertion.

Vitaliy and Volodymyr during a visit to the clinic. Patients are still carrying Ilizarov apparatus

In terms of  The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project Volodymyr had 10 centimeters of tibia defect compensated with a use of cellular materials. After a bone strengthen for a little more, 6 more centimeters will be compensated with help an of Ilizarov apparatus. At the time Volodymyr had all external retainers removed, and sent home to rest for a while.

Today Volodymyr’s leg looks scary, but a plastic surgery is already planned. The main point is that the bone is healing

We sincerely hope, that the treatment process will bring positive changes and do everything possible to make it happen. The treatment of Volodymyr volunteers of The People’s Project finance only at the expense of people’s donations. For Volodymyr we collected over 600,000 UAH, but he is neither the only, nor the last patient of the project, who requires treatment with innovative technologies. The government does not finance this kind of a treatment, so we can rely only on donations collected in terms of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project. Once again we call you to help. If we leave wounded soldiers without support, it will deprive them of their last chance and doom them to amputation and life long mutilation.
