Dear friends, here’s another intermediate report on the Second Front project within which we are supplying doctors with protective gear. We rely upon your understanding: today, we have no nice physical evidence of our work to show you. As usual, lately we have been absorbed in managerial issues like logistics, ordering, hours of negotiations and applications paperwork.
Today, we have paid for another batch pf protective gear for doctors of the Kyiv Oblast Regional Hospital. We mean reusable suits which are worn as the first layer under the full-body medical suits and coats. These should be changed pretty often, so we bought them in plenty, almost half a thousand items. We need to wait how much useful they prove in practice, then listen to the doctors’ opinion on them: after this, we will most probably order another batch as the need remains quite essential.

In addition, today we are purchasing another batches of respirators and protective eyeglasses. These safety means will be allocated to three hospitals who requested them, as soon as we get the shipment. One batch will go to the medics of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital №10 where most difficult of the infected patients are treated; also, we’re going to send certain amount to the Zhytomyr Military Hospital. An airborne brigade are expecting to get their respirators and glasses along with protective masks (which are being manufactured right now) – we will account for sending all this stuff immediately after the transfers are done. We need to say that the needs of our military have been satisfied at the expense of our another initiative titled Rapid Response, as we consider it fair and appropriate to meet the urgent needs of our army men by means of the relevant project.
Actually, there’s appeared certain shortage in both high-class and even in humbler, more ordinary, models of eyeglasses, lately. The amounts of these available in stock seems gradually vanish. So we will need to seek further, and irrespectively of how much time it takes, we will find these.
These eyeglasses are of a decent quality despite their low price. Their main function is to protect a doctor’s eyes against the direct contacting with breathing and coughing of infected patients. They cope with the task easily
The main massif of the applications we will need to process in the next few days, are respirators and safety suits as we still haven’t manage to supply all the applicants with these. Earlier, we purchased certain amount of disposable items, which can serve and be useful only once.
We understand this is just a partial protection, still the medical staff of the hospitals to which we have already sent these, send us (and, respectively, you) their sincere thanks.
Also, recently we happened to talk to our doctors again. Their units get gradually stuffed with patients while the situation with protective gear remains far from satisfactory. What will happen when the epidemic reaches its peak, and the numbers of patients grow exponentially, remains an open question.
Admittedly, we, the volunteers, feel more and more exhausted as time goes, still it seems the “golden hour” to do our best and to be the most effective. Al least, thanks to our shared efforts the situation is not growing worse. Perhaps we provide our doctors with the simplest, just basic means of protection, still in view of total absence of decent safety gear the input seems truly useful. Dear friends, we Kindly ask you to join in the initiative. Everything we do for our doctors today, inevitably lessens the risks they’re taking today, and will subsequently result in their more effective work and more saved patients’ lives tomorrow. So please do not cease your participation as it is the sector that currently requires maximum of shared public efforts.
