Dear friends, here are some news about our Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project’s patient, sapper Serhii. The man got wounded near the village of Krymske: the explosion of an enemy landmine destroyed his leg. Within the first stage of treatment doctors restored the broken hip and elongated it by 5cm. Now, when the process of healing is almost over, we can talk about total restoration of the limb.
At present, doctors have taken the decision to perform a few surgeries aimed at enabling Serhii to fully step on his leg. The matter is, due to the injury of a nerve, the muscles and tendons got shortened and lessened in volume, so there developed the so called contracture in the man’s leg: the toes got crooked and clinched.
–Now the toes are crooked and bent downward, which makes it practically impossible to move them. This also impedes my walking: while using my crutches, I manage to walk somehow, but without due support, it hurts and hard to handle, – Serhii says.
To set his toes free and give the men the possibility to use his foot and walk in a normal way, the doctors have to perform a few successive operations. Apart from this, levelling the position of the foot and bringing all the tendons in their physiological position requires application of the Ilizarov apparatus wearing which Serhii will need to spend a couple of months.
Of course, additional operations mean extra expenditures. Still, this will allow our defender to come back to normal life and walk freely on his own legs. The sum is not that big, so each hryvnia contributed into the Project, will give the man a chance for recovery, as the state persistently keeps away from Serhii’s restoration and treatment. That’s why we urge you to support the Project as much as you can. The big green button below serves this very purpose. Dear friends, please join our initiative: we just cannot leave the man alone with his troubles, right on halfway to his recovery, can we?
