Dear friends, in March we told you about Petro and shared the news in which we told that the doctors were going to hobble him as soon as he recovered following the previous surgeries a bit. The time has already come: the doctors just initiated one of the major stages of treatment for Petro’s leg injury. Last week he was hospitalized to perform the first operation within the “Italian” reconstruction of the ulcerous scar soft-tissue defects of the foot. During the surgery the doctors formed a piece of skin on his left shin, partially attached it to the right heel and carried out gypsum immobilization. Thus, at the moment Petro’s right leg remains attached to his left one. This will last until the doctors make sure that the piece has fitted in. After this they will dissect another part of the skin piece from the right leg which will allow Petro to move his legs separately.
Now, due to this procedure, Petro is limited in his movements, still the method enhances his chances to achieve better results in restoration of the soft tissues. Though seemingly inconvenient, this way of restoration allows the surgeons to add the necessary massive of the soft tissues in the foot. Later, following numerous plastic surgeries aimed to restore the soft tissues, the doctors will take on the restoration of the bones. Let us keep in mind that Petro is still going to make quite a long way to recuperation and total reconstruction of the heel bone. Besides, the medics are planning to sort out the whole skeleton of his foot in a way that will allow Petro to move his leg freely and with no limitations.
In view of the fact that Petro had been literally pulled off the surgery table minutes before the pre-scheduled amputation, all the current unpleasant procedures seemed worth it. Since if compared to the perspective of living without a leg, even a long-lasting and difficult treatment does not look that unlikable.
The Biotech patients send their greetings and thank you for your support
May we remind you that Petro got wounded last year in May: he stepped on a Russian landmine near Dokuchaievsk. If not his solid army boot, Petro would have lost his leg; still he got away with his heel bone and foot soft tissues torn completely off. In military hospitals, their doctors got relentless: they insisted on amputation and subsequent prosthetics and even appointed the surgery for the guy. Pale like hell and exhausted by continuous medication, Petro gave up and agreed to amputation. But his friends and volunteers got spooked and talked the guy into trying innovative technologies instead.
Within the Biotech, the guy first underwent a few preventive and examinational surgeries, and later, when his open wound was cleaned up, the doctors started to grow up and amass the soft tissues. One reconstructive surgery after another, and Petro’s foot has been gradually regaining its natural form.
Let us remind you how much work has been already done for Petro’s recovery
May we also tell you about Petro’s urgent needs. At the expense of your donations, we have already paid for chief part of Petro’s treatment, still it is not the right time to stop. That is why we are urging you to participate in the Project and support both Petryk and other wounded ATO fighters who are undergoing treatment within the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project and who desperately needs our assistance. Dear friends, please be supportive as much as you can: sometimes even a few hryvnias’ donation can become decisively effective!
