As he walks supported by the crutches, she holds him by hand. He is leaning against the wall posing for a photo session (the treatment proves successful and the bone started to fuse at last) – she is clinging to him like a small bird, smiling shyly. To always be next to your beloved – if this is not love, then what should love look like?
Pardon for that perhaps too poetic digression, – it is just seeing such a loving and devoted couple in which both are shining from within, was a great but a bit unexpected pleasure. Serhii, a patient of the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project, came over to the clinic along with his delicate wife who nevertheless has always been a steadfast backing for her husband.
Despite being a sapper himself, Serhii managed to hit the enemy tripwire explosive. The explosion heavily injured his leg and smashed the hip and tore up the nerve responsible for foot moving abilities. Over time, even following seven surgeries performed in military hospitals, the bone has not fused up which led to shortening of the leg by 4 centimeters and deformation of the foot. Just look what the mess instead of the bone Serhii joined the Project with, was like:
The Biotech proved effective: maybe still supported by crutches, Serhii visited the clinic on his own two legs. Within the project, the doctors sorted out his leg, transplanted a special bone fragment into the defected area and filled the injured zone with cell materials. Now Serhii has come to take his regular check-up. The x-ray testified that the bone keeps gradually fusing up.
Perhaps his newly grown hip bone will not bring him the first place in a hip-bone-beauty-contest. Still as soon as it strengthens a bit, Serhii is going to gradually load the leg which will allow him to walk normally soon. We have already paid for the main course of treatment, so there are no questions about Serhii’s bills. Still other participants of the Project desperately need our support: as you remember, the state keeps aside from sponsoring these methods of wounded fighters’ treatment, so we, the volunteers of People’s Project, are able to bring them back on their feet only thanks to your assistance. Dear friends, please do not hesitate to join the initiative and support the guys: irrespectively of how tired we got of this bloody war and its consequences, – our wounded defenders feel much worse as they face their troubles unaided and almost alone.
