Volodymyr has been participating in the Project for just a month and a half, and now he is approaching the finale of treatment. As the result of two series of surgeries the «Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded» project has almost completely restored the man’s leg. For a long period of time the ATO veteran was suffering from severe pain: the destroyed ligaments of his knee practically did not allow him to walk. Now Volodymyr rushed home, although on crutches so far: in some time as he practices walking and his leg gains some strength, he will come back to the clinic – this time just for a regular checkup.
Volodymyr got wounded in the ATO zone: under an enemy shelling the man had torn the cruciate ligament of the knee. In a state hospital, they attributed his continuous acute pain to his previous injury: the surgeons performed an operation and removed an old orthopedic plate, but did not pay any attention to the torn ligament. Moreover, during the surgery the doctors broke one of fixing screws and left it in the knee. Later this metallic fragment presented an obstacle for carrying out an MRI test aimed to detect supplementary problems. You can read the whole of Volodymyr’s dramatic story following the link.
This was Volodymyr’s knee at the very beginning of his rehabilitation within the Project: the x-rays show the fixing screw but not the torn ligament
It was Volodymyr Oksymets, the chief surgeon at the Bioegineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project’s experience that saved the situation. During the very initial examinations Volodymyr Mykhaylovych confidently diagnosed the specific injury of the ligaments and got surprised why the doctors who previously treated Volodymyr, had failed to recognize it. In the course of two subsequent surgeries the doctors first removed the broken screw and scrupulously examined the joint, and later restored the ligaments of Volodymyr’s knee. The fighter joined the Project in late September, and now, on the 14th of November, he has been released home for further restoration.
Now to the pragmatic side of this case. Total cost of Volodymyr’s treatment makes almost 90 thousand hryvnias. The man is the father of eight children, with their eldest son serving in the ATO at the moment, so it is clear they just unable to pay for the treatment on their own. As usual, the volunteers of the Biotech took over the financial part of the case. Major part of the sum was raised by a girl named Myroslava: she herself is fighting against the consequences of a severe illness and yet recently made the first steps on her own feet in her life. Maybe due to this reason she got so deeply sympathetic to Volodymyr and so eager to give him a hand. People’s Project has paid the most part of bills at the expense of funds raised by Myroslava; later we managed to accumulate more money and paid for another part of treatment. Nevertheless, to pay the full sum we still need to raise a bit more funds which now makes rather a minor amount, about 17 thousand hryvnias. So we ask for your assistance as these funds can be raised at the expense of benevolent donations or individual contributions solely. Dear friends, we beg you to help: together we can pay the full cost of treatment quite easily.
