02.04.2018: Finalized news regarding Dmytro’s treatment
07.12.2017: Three severely wounded fighters are to undergo surgeries within a unique volunteer project
Despite his young age – Dmytro is only 19 – the guy has already gained solid experience of fighting. He served with the 36th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade in the battalion under Vadym Sukharevskiy’s command. Got wounded near the village of Vodiane.
Left arm consequences of shotgun injury to a part of the left shoulder joint:
In the MRI picture you can see that the left shoulder joint is practically absent, and a shoulder bone is basically destroyed
If not the Biotech: unless Dmytro’s trauma has been treated, the guy’s prospective looks quite miserable. Such a complicated defect to the bones cannot get healed by itself. In case of such injuries conventional medicine offers just two options: it could be either the artificial joint (which Dmytro has nothing to attach to), or arthrodesis that means stiff fixing of the remains to the scapula. If to take into account that the half of Dmytro’s shoulder bone is literally absent, the arm will inevitably turn into a short helpless appendage which implies lifetime limitations in motion and rather a heavy maim.
Practice of successful implementation proves that restoration of vast bone defects along with re-growing of new bones of the corresponding complex profile as well as reconstruction of the whole shoulder joint is possible through application of cell technologies. Application of the cell regeneration methods enables a patient of restoration the maximum functionality of the arm and coming back to normal life with practically no limitations.
Required treatment: reconstructive-restorative treatment of the shoulder joint with application of bioengineering – methods of cell regeneration.
Dmytro is a very young marine with the 36th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade; the guy is only 19 years old. He got injured in May 2017 on the outskirts of Mariupol. Under an unexpected hostile firing the guy’s shoulder was hit by an enemy explosive bullet. It virtually torn the guy’s arm off: destroyed the whole joint, severely damaged the muscles and torn important blood vessels. A vast blood loss nearly ended in the worst, but Dmytro’s comrades and medics saved him from the inevitable death. Later there were hospitals, and a course of treatment in Kharkiv; from there the young marine was taken to the capital military hospital. During the first weeks the medics managed to stabilize Dmytro’s condition and performed a number of reconstructive surgeries, compensated the defect of soft tissues and in fact saved the arm from immediate amputation. They stopped at the edge: restoration of the shoulder joint with application of traditional methods exceeds Ukraine’s conventional medicine’s capacity so far. The Biotech is the option that can be of help: the cell methods of regeneration which are being applied within the project, allow compensation of major bone tissue defects as well as restoration of bone structures even of a complex profile. Treatment under the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project can restore Dmytro’s joint and bring back full functionality of his arm.
Dmytro himself is the resident of Bilozirskiy district, Kherson region. While a teenager, the guy started to work to support his family with money; his hobby was wrestling. As soon as he was 18, Dmytro decided to go to the army on contract. Joined the Marines, where he served with the legendary 500th Battalion under Vadym Sukharevskiy’s command. This is the very division whom People’s Project has been regularly helping within the separate «Mariupol Defenders» project. We feel responsible for the Marine’s safety, but irrespectively of this we are determined in supporting the guy in his rehabilitation and reappearance in full life.
