It has started. Just yesterday Volodymyr arrived to the clinic. Today he went through his first difficult surgery. His hand is in its place, but it practically has no bones in it.
Volodymyr’s terrible injury, that will be treated
He volunteered to the army at the very beginning of the war. At first he fought at the Dnipro-1 battalion, subsequently joined the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade. During the service he went through all the hot spots of the war. He was wounded during a combat operation in between Zaytseve and Horlivka, when a group of Ukrainian defenders was fired with 120-millimeter enemy’s mine in spring of 2017.
It is a miracle he remained alive. However, the fragments cut of Volodymyr’s body all over. His life has been saved at the hospitals, but there was no chance to save his arm. Conventional medicine has no methods to restore 10 centimeters of a defect of both bones of the forearm. At this time the bones are infected with the progressive gunshot osteomyelitis. The question about the amputation is in the air. So it may end up badly in case of any delay.
There is one hope about The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project. It specializes on the treatment of this kind of injuries. Volunteers and journalists have done everything, to ensure that Volodymyr joined the project asap, and started the treatment. Volodymyr is now in the safe hands of the doctors of the Biotech. Out of Volodymyr’s cellular material 2 bone matrices will be generated, to connect the broken bones eventually. The mass of live cultured cells will help to accelerate fusion, and heal of bones real fast.
As you can see, instead the bones his hand is full of the bone fragments
During the first surgery, doctors of The Ilaya Clinic dismantled the device of external fixation, examined the wound, and took the samples of cellular materials. In a short time at the laboratory necessary material will be prepared, to restore the broken bones. This was the first one of the preparatory surgeries, and in a few days Volodymyr go through a second one.
With a combined effort of the volunteers of The People’s Project we already collected, and paid almost a third part of the cost of Volodymyr’s medical treatment course. We paid over 200,000 UAH, and the complete course will cost more than 600,000 UAH. Not a penny in the amount mentioned has been received from the state budget. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine completely refuses to finance such methods of treatment, and leave soldiers with serious injuries to leave with amputations, prosthetics and life-threatening injuries. That’s why we can finance this treatment only at the expense of your donations. Every dollar, each contribution to The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project gives injured Ukrainian defenders a hope, a chance to recover and live a normal life. It’s up to us to help them. This is the priority.
