On this beautiful day of May one of the participants of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project went through an extraordinary surgery. For Vitaliy this surgery is neither the first one, nor even tenth. Vitaliy injured his legs so badly, that doctors had to work really hard to return the boy to normal.
Vitaliy came to the clinic on his own two
Vitaliy joined The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project with a severe shin trauma. Bone has fused not properly, and got twisted, which caused leg shortening. Such injuries he received in a battle near Savur-Mohyla in summer of 2014th. Vitaliy’s tank got under a severe fire, and fell off the bridge. Vitaliy seriously wounded his legs and abdomen. After the injury he spend 18 month at public hospitals. Doctors saved his life, and healed the wounds of the abdomen. However, his leg remained uncured. Despite of 5 serious surgeries the bone fused in a wrong position. Vitaliy was barely limping with crutches. That is why during the project doctors had to break a bone, set it into a correct position, and grow back again using cellular technology.
The bone is fine. Now its turn of the tendons
Today Vitaliy is already capable to walk by himself. That is because of an injury and a long period of inactivity his toes tendons deformed, which makes walking uncomfortable. Those tendons were fixed today, during a complicated plastic surgery. With some time, after rehabilitation and development of legs, nothing will stop Vitaliy from walking safely and easily on his own two.
Whole treatment course of the Ukrainian defender, including all additional expenses the volunteers of The People’s Project covered at the expense of people’s donations, because the government does not finance the treatment of a seriously wounded military. It cost more than 300,000 UAH, and all this amount we gathered in terms of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project. And now we have to pay almost 50,000 UAH more for the plastic surgery, because without it all efforts will go in vain. Lets not leave Ukrainian defender in trouble.
