Remember Sashko: a legendary fighter with the 79th individual landing assault brigade? He has returned to the clinic. Within the primary treatment process in the project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded, Sasha had his leg cured, saving him from amputation. He has started to almost walk unaided – gradually, relying only on a cane. Now it is time for the additional stage of treatment, Sasha needs treatment to orrect the position of the foot, so the guy can walk without any obstacles.
Sasha is a career soldier, who his devoted his life to the ’16 Army, was injured in the first days of the war. He was performing combat orders – helped in the evacuation of the area around the checkpoints of Dovzhansky and Izvaryne when Russian artillery fire intensified from across the border. A convoy, which he was part of was fired upon – hitting the mark of the APC he was travelling in and Sasha and his colleagues were very seriously injured. Alexander severely injured his head – said from death was saved by his volunteer helmet – however his leg was severely injured. Wounded, he was immediately evacuated to hospital.
At the beginning of treatment. See also the clumsy apparatus it was difficult for him to get used to
Even in hospitals, doctors did everything possible: the defect of his skull, which formed after the collision, a closed metal plate for his wounded leg trying to put it back together using traditional methods. Six operations have not helped – shattered foot bones, numerous defects and displacement have meant that it is hard to use the leg. Since then Sasha could not move independently and could barely hobble on crutches, and after these “exercises” he suffered terrible pain in his leg.
Already out, soon Sasha will again lie on the operating table
Within the project Sasha was first treated for the bones of the foot, removing gangrenous tissue and lesions were filled cellular materials. Subsequently, the fractures fused and the foot came to an expectedly stronger physiological form. However, in the process of accretion it went into slightly the wrong position – and that is normal during these type of complex reconstructive surgery.
But the next operation we sincerely hope it will be last in the project
In the course of further surgery, which he had only recently, Sasha underwent an osteotomy – a cut of the tibia, bringing the foot in the right position and then the leg was set in an Ilizarov apparatus. For some time the bone and leg has been back to like new – after some rehabilitation the guy will again be free to walk in on his own two feet.
Operation behind. All three guys with leg injuries Sasha, Volodymyr, and Bohdan
For the treatment of these severe injuries, we the volunteers of The People’s Project, pay only at the expense of people’s donations – during treatment of serious injuries from the war the government is not involved. Specifically recovery Sasha we collected and spent nearly half a million UAH – but by the end of treatment there will still be a relatively small amount of shortfall. We have spent so much effort, money and nerves on the the treatment that to quit treatment at this stage, almost at the finishline, would be a crime. So we call on help – even some UAH donation to the project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded so we caan cross that finishline.
