They say that a man is as old as he feels he is. Volodymyr Oksymes is twenty years old then. Despite the gray hair and an enormous theoretical and practical contribution to the treatment process of the complicated injuries Volodymyr has more enthusiasm and energy than most of the young guys. He have a great talent to manage difficult surgeries and care about the patients.
Volodymyr Maksymets is the father of the cellular treatment technology in Ukraine
We once again came to The Ilaya Clinic where the patients of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project are treated. The military television decided to dedicate The People’s Project separate show. So The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project as one of it’s main projects will take a significant part during the airtime.

Vitaliy is sleeping after the anesthesia. He got to the project recently, but already suffered a lot. For Vitaliy this is the third and the most difficult injury. His femur was severely injured near the knee by the enemy’s bullet. Then he was captured by the enemies of Ukraine, so the treatment started only after the he was releases. Beside the injury Vitaliy have his femur infected by the osteomyelitis. The infection does not allow to restore the leg properly, and make it impossible to implant the prosthetic eye instead of the one he lost because of the explosion. Vitaliy survived the first few surgeries and now is gradually moving forward towards the recovery.
Now we move to the next chamber. There we found Sergiy connected to the machine of the vacuum wound drainage. Despite the terrible injury that stretches through the all hip Sergiy does not lose his optimism. He speaks about life and thank his benefactors. The communities of Spain played a significant part in the treatment and rehabilitation of Sergiy abroad, and now they finance his treatment in The Ilaya Clinic.
Sergiy suffers from the terrible femur wound. He had the fragments of the femur fixed with a giant metal rod, which was implanted inside of the bone through the entire length of the bone. Then osteomyelitis made everything even more complicated, and almost destroyed the remains of the bone.
Right now doctors are trying to overcome infection and prepare the bone for the recovery. Sergiy requires massive reconstruction of the defect area, which is about ten centimeters long. But he stays optimistic. He have a good doctors, the family support, and the compatriots overseas who do not remain indifferent.
Sergiy remembers the bureaucracy he has been through, before he got the the clinic
Near the chamber we once again meet Volodymyr Oksymets. He can not hide irritation. He says that because of the unfortunate efforts of some military and state hospital doctors the patients like Sergiy arrive to the project in a very bad shape, and need to go through much more surgeries than they should.
A similar situation is with the hospitals near the front line during the war, where doctors think about saving life and only then about the treatment of wounds. But sometimes in the military and state hospitals people are treated in a wrong way. Of course, many of the doctors do the best they can to save people from the death and injury. But sometimes cases of criminal negligence of doctors still happen.
This is how Sergiy’s leg look now, due to the negligence of some doctors
At the door we meet Vitaliy. The guy steadily go through the painful treatment process after the surgery. Despite the pain he still looks much better than during our last visit. Vitaliy got his leg shortened by six centimeters and twisted in the wrong direction. And now, despite the horrifying Ilizarov apparatus and scars his leg looks much better. The treatment using the cellular technology will help Vitaliy to recover completely soon.
Vitaliy’s face show the pain of the 18 month of suffering
On the bed nearby we meet civil patient Sergiy, who was injured during the car accident. He has a complicated leg fracture and decided to trust professionals to treat it. There is no need in the use of the cellular technology in this case. He came to the hospital because wanted his injury to be treated by Volodymyr Oksymets. He trust him as an experienced orthopaedist and traumatologist.
The doctor Volodymyr Oksymets doing the best job to help all those in need
Dmytro is the last patient in the chamber. His main injury was almost completely cured in the military hospitals. But the trouble is that damaged skin behind the knee is not growing back and torn from the slightest movement.
Neither steroids nor other classic methods of the treatments have not helped. Because of the constant pain Dmytro turned to the project, that helped to cure many other wounded soldiers. Nobody will be using cellular technology to treat this injury. The problem will be solved by the plastic reconstructive surgery performed by the Volodymyr Oksymets. Right now specialists grow the skin application, that will be transplanted to the wounded area.
Right now Dmytro is recovering after the surgery (More details about that will be presented later)
After the detailed interview journalists leave Maxym. The coordinator of The Bioengineering for Wounded Project Stanislav Kushnarov presents Maxym with a book.
Presents like this are priceless
One of the patients of the project is Sasha who is a volunteer with a difficult fate. He gratefully signed a copy of the book he wrote, while he had his leg treated. Despite the terrible trauma and all the negative predictions of the doctors The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project gave Sasha a chance to recover. And Sasha proudly went out of the clinic on his own healthy legs.
This is not our last visit to The Ilaya Clinic. And all the mentioned above are not the last patients of The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project. Because of all sorts of bureaucratic obstacles the government does not finance high-tech treatment of the seriously wounded defenders of Ukraine. And without such treatment most of the injured soldiers are doomed to amputation or mutilation. The volunteers keep collecting money to treat and Sergiy and Vitaliy. The donations collected through The Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded Project allow to save life.
