Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded

Biotech saves leg of another seriously wounded patient

Recently, another of the patients enrolled in the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project underwent the main stage of his treatment. Wounded fighter Oleksandr underwent major surgery, during which a specific matrix was implanted at the site of the bone defect and a medical gel saturated with Oleksandr’s own cellular material was introduced to the affected area. Over time, the cells must multiply within the matrix and form new bone that is actually full strength, offsetting the bone defect. All funds were collected for Oleksandr’s treatment by the volunteers of The People’s Project through donations made to its crowdfunding platform.

A few days before the surgery: Oleksandr had lost faith in traditional medicine

Oleksander, a fighter in the 93rd Brigade, was wounded in battle near Donetsk Airport when mine explosion injured both legs and his right arm. Eighteen months later, Oleksandr was still trying to overcome his injuries through conventional medicine. His arm and left leg healed, but his right lower leg remained a problem: the fracture refused to heal, and osteomyelitis set in consuming the bone and leaving his leg non-operational.

Oleksandr’s lower leg, damaged as a result of the explosion and subsequent osteomyelitis destroyed a significant section of bone

Oleksandr endured seven operations in state hospitals and eventually tired of the failure to get results, volunteers and friends advised him to turn to the biotech project. And after the main stages of treatment, Oleksandr again has a chance to fully walk on his own two legs.

The excellent anesthesiologist at the clinic iLaya is worth his weight in gold

An inspection after half-a-month, showed how well bone had formed, and how quickly the fracture was beginning to fuse.

How Oleksandr’s leg looked before treatment

Unfortunately, Oleksandr is not the only patient in need of the high-tech treatment the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project offers. They otherwise face permanent disability, amputation and artificial limbs. The Ukrainian state does not yet such treatment and at present the only chance these seriously wounded Ukrainian defenders have is the iLaya Medical Company in conjunction with volunteer efforts and your donations.
