Another participant in the Bioengineering Rehabvilitation for Wounded project has left the hospital. Twenty-six-year-old Vitaliy, has overcome the effects of severe injury to his left leg and is undergoing further rehabilitation. Recently, Vitaliy had the Ilizarov apparatus finally removed, which was fitted to his leg for almost two years.
Vitaliy is a career soldier and after military service served five years under contract. To protect Ukraine from the occupants he left to fight in the first days of the ATO. Vitaliy received his injury in battle near Saur-Mohyla. The tank, which Vitaliy was a passenger in fell from a bridge during strong shelling. Vitaliy’s friend was killed instantly he was lucky to survive himself, but was seriously injured. Treatment did not bring healing, despite six operations the bones in his leg did not fuse properly. Plagued with swelling in his foot, for the past year-and-a-half Vitaliy lived with constant and unbearable pain. Cellular technology administered at the iLaya clinic allowed for the growth of sufficient bone fragments in the leg and ankle to put the soldier back on his feet. And it is only thanks to your donations his treatment was possible.
Now Vitaliy is undergoing further rehabilitation and will see doctors only for routine examination. If he had not participated in the project, Vitaliy would continue to be in constant pain and would hardly be be able to place weight on the leg. Unfortunately, Vitaliy is not the only patient in need of this high-tech treatment. In line and waiting to take part in the project are another dozen injured defenders for which biotechnology represents their last chance for recovery. These guys rely on our assistance and yours.
