Volodymyr, who was wounded near Donetsk Airport, underwent surgery on August 23 with total replacement of his defect calcaneus with a block of osteoplastic material from his autologous (own) stem cells. All treatment costs, to a total of 505,130 UAH, were transferred from The People’s Project, via charity contributions.
Now the main task of Volodymyr is to relax and rejuvenate. In 1.5 months he will have a control X-ray examination, after which doctors will plan the soldier’s further treatment – planned ligament restoration.
We believe everything will be fine and the control X-ray will pay testament to that.
Volodymyr, a soldier with the 93rd Brigade, was wounded on July 12 2015 during reconnaissance near Donetsk airport. Volodymyr struck a land mine and narrowly avoided traumatic amputation, which is to be expected in such cases.
The soldier has undergone seven operations on his injured leg. In some time his wound healed, but his leg has been left unable to bear any weight, because his left heel is almost completely missing.
Traditional medicine is unable to help in the recovery from such injuries. The soldier was sent for treatment in Germany, but doctors there were only able to make an orthopedic lining for his shoes. Volodymyr cannot walk on the leg because of severe pain in the heel.
Fortunately, the doctors at iLaya Medical Company, who are now in their third year treating Ukraine’s wounded soldiers as part of the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project, took it upon themselves to help Volodymyr. The latest in cellular technology will give Volodymyr a greater chance of recovery and of returning to a normal life. We are grateful for every contribution that helps to treat Ukraine’s wounded defenders, in particular thanks to everyone who contributed to raise funds for the treatment of Volodymyr. However there are still wounded military personnel in need of assistance. We continue to raise funds for five wounded. Another dozen are waiting in the queue. Together we can help them.
Please get involved.
