Another a wounded ATO soldier has been saved from amputation by Ukrainian doctors. The left leg of Viktor, of the consolidated military de-mining unit, has had the plaster removed. Bone crushed during an enemy bombardment has fused through biotechnology and the ability of Ukrainian medical biotechnology specialists.

Viktor already has begun to exercise his leg. Soon he will take his first independent steps without support. Until recently Viktor was threatened with amputation. He plans to return to the ATO zone after his recovery is complete, and we respect his wish not to show his face.
Before he was enrolled in the Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project, Victor endured 30 operations with no improvement. On the contrary, through osteomelitis, the bone defect significantly increased. Fortunately, volunteers told him about our project and Viktor was taken for treatment to the iLaya clinic.
Injured July 5, 2014 in Slavyansk when, immediately after liberation of the city, Ukrainian troops were covered in separatist fire, resulting in the collapse of a building, Viktor was among those inside. A piece of rubble fell on his leg breaking it.
He would subsequently undergo about 30 operations. After each operation the condition of the bone deteriorated. This continued for more than a year. In addition, soft tissue in the leg started to die and Viktor was threatened with amputation.
Then volunteers Olha Tkachenko and Natalia Zavadskaya put Viktor in contact with the coordinators of the social project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded. Soon he was accepted for the project.
In August 2015, doctors stopped the destruction of bone and fighter was prepared for the restoration of bone tissue. Then the soldier was transferred to the iLaya medical center, where doctors overcame the problems with soft tissue and bone was extracted. The vast wound closed completely and processes to restore bone began.
The clinic has a team of biotechnologists and surgeons. The cells are grown under sterile conditions and then transplanted into the body. The operations are very expensive, and the money to fund them is collected by the volunteers of The People’s Project as part of the initiuative Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded. To date, the project has treated 76 patients with severe combat injuries of the extremities, the result is 42 patients in various stages of treatment and 34 wounded ATO soldiers completely cured
Earlier, The People’s Project reported the incredible restoration of the bone in a 19-year-old’s leg. Recently doctors formed new bone in a wounded soldier from the “Donbas” Battalion.
More wounded are awaiting funds to be collected. Since the state, through legislative and other restrictions, can not support biotechnology in the treatment of wounded soldiers only hope for help lies with ordinary people.
