Doctors have performed the main stage of surgery to restore the shoulder of 30th Brigade fighter Volodymyr. At the site of Volodymyr’s injury 3D-gel chips of osteoplastic material and autologous stem cells were introduced. In six weeks the first control X-rays that show the process of bone formation are scheduled.
All treatment costs of Volodymyr were fully covered by The People’s Project through people’s donations.
Traditional methods rendered recovery of the wounded shoulder impossible. Without the use of biotechnology, the 33-year-old would remain disabled with a non-functioning left arm.
Volodymyr has gone home to recover. He will return to the clinic at the end of August. We hope that the control examination shows positive results.
A bullet smashed Volodymyr’s shoulder on July 30, 2014 in the village Stepanovka near Savur-Mohyla. Together with a fellow solder, Volodymyr was picking up a flamethrower, which had been tipped over in the street. It was while they were doing this they came under fire from Russian invaders. Later the injured soldier was treated at several hospitals and underwent six operations on his arm. During treatment at one of the hospitals, the plate, which fixed the shoulder, broke causing the bone to fuse incorrectly.
Treatment of Volodymyr as part of the project “Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded” began on April 26 2016, when doctors performed the sampling of material and installed a resection device for moving bones to the correct position. The primary operation was completed two months later on June 24.
Through people, funds for Volodymyr’s treatment were raised quite quickly. However, enrolled in the project are two wounded soldiers – Volodymyr and Oleksandr, for whom fundraising for their treatment continues. Biotechnology represents their only chance to recover. In their cases, traditional treatments are useless. Since, for a number of reasons, the state could fund treatment only in public institutions, the soldiers have to rely on us and you.
Earlier The People’s Project announced the sensational restoration of the foot of a 19-year-old volunteer. Recently doctors grew bone in the leg of a wounded soldier from the “Donbas” Battalion.
