Usually, burns are treated with an artificial skin transplant. Wound healing creates scar tissue that restricts movement and causes many many other problems. A burn of considerable depth threatens the patient with death because the greatest danger is infection. The longer human tissue is not restored, the less likely a person is to survive. “Skin Bank” aims towards the implementation of modern medical care in Ukraine. Experience has proven the efficacy of cell technology is proven worldwide and we are now able to publish the results, of our 12 most difficult cases, 12 lives that have been saved.
The project we created six months ago. Its budget was about two million UAH and we quickly managed to raise money for the implementation of this unique technology for skin regeneration thanks to the support of patrons, especially the pharmaceutical firm “Darnitsa”. The company donated to the project 800 000 UAH. Giving those affected by burns a considerable chance to recover.
Other project participants were the medical company ilaya, which provides for the cultivation of cell material at the Kyiv City Burn Center, where patients are treated, and The People’s Project, which ensured the collection of funds.
The project Skin Bank, to treat burns takes material from the cell bank. These cells have an advantage over using medication or artificial skin. This technology allows for the regeneration of tissue and skin instead of scar tissue. All details you can read in this link project. Here is the history of patients treated. They had almost no hope of recovery, but are now doing well.
“Now all the patients are well, they have returned to normal life. Treatment has brought good results, which can be seen in our photo report,” the head of the Skin Bank Oleksiy Alex Shershniov said. “With cell technology, doctors were able to efficiently repair damaged tissue for patients because now at the site of the burns are covered in dermis, but no severe scarring, as is the case with similar injuries. It makes for a completely different quality of life. In addition, in the case of severe burns, cell technology can actually save a person’s life, quickly restoring large areas of skin. ”
The permanent reserve in the Skin Bank is 5 billion cells. During 2015-2016 the project completed restoration of the skin using cellular technology of 12 patients who received deep burns to 43% of their body’s surface. To do this, we used 0.9 billion cells, or 12.8% of the reserve of the Skin Bank. Thus, the Skin Bank’s reserves remains at 4.1 billion cells to be used in the future. The treatments were carried out in the Kyiv Burn Center, led by Professor George Kozynki.
Without your support of the project and the pharmaceutical company Darnitsa, we would not have been able create the Skin Bank and put it into practice. We thank all sponsors and all of you who helped with money, or dissemination of information.
For the project Skin Bank all money has been collected and the project is gaining momentum. But we still have projects that need financial support. Treatment using cellular technology as part of Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded project is onging.
