Wounded ATO heroes, who have had bones restored as part of the social project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded, will participate in the “Chestnut Run 2016” held as part of Day of Kyiv celebrations.
Soldiers who, after severe injuries have had shattered and lost bone restored with cellular technology will be involved in the “Chestnut Run” to be held in Kiev on May 29. The run is scheduled to start at 9:30 on St Michael’s Square in Kyiv. We invite all concerned to support our heroes and see the results of this innovative medical biotechnology in action.
This charity event has taken place for the past 24 years and has the goal of raising funds to help children with congenital heart defects.
Our heroes participating had severe combat injuries to bones, which usually lead to disability or even amputations. But thanks to the project Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded they have received high-tech treatment using cellular technology. It is possible to repair damaged bones and preserve the function of the limbs. Despite all those skeptical of such techniques, the men are free to walk and even run, and live full-lives in the country they protected from the aggression of Russian occupiers.
The biotech initiative was created by volunteers from The People’s Project in autumn 2014 to help badly wounded soldiers avoid amputations and disability.
To date, the project has taken on more than 50 wounded, and more than half of them have returned to normal life, the rest are in various stages of recovery. The soldiers’ treatment is performed using a unique technique developed by specialists of the Kyiv-based ilaya Medical Company and involves the restoration of bone and tissue using their own stem cells. The method used is unique and something Ukraine should be proud of, there is no clinic in the world practicing the same methods.
All funds needed to treat those enrolled in the initiative is crowdfunded by The People’s Project and thanks to sponsoship. In total, the project has raised more than 13 million UAH to date.
