Wounded:

Valeriy, 42, a fighter with the 3rd separate Special Forces Regiment, wounded in Ilovaisk.

Wound:

Right forearm injuries as a consequence of explosive shrapnel. Improperly spliced fractures of the distal third of the right forearm with elbow strain. Scar contracture of the right combination radio-carpal joint and fingers.
During the course of 10 months of treatment with traditional methods the process of bone accretion took a long time. Currently the forearm deformed significantly affecting the functions of the fingers and wrist joint meaning he has lost the function of his hand.

Valeriy is a fighter with the 3rd separate Special Forces Regiment (Kirovograd). He was wounded on August 29, leaving the infamous “Ilovaisk cauldron” when the men were ready to break through the encirclement – it was necessary to perform a sweep of Krasnosilske. During the combat operation Valeriy received a bullet in the forearm.

First aid was provided for the soldier in Rozivka, he was then transferred to Dnipropetrovsk where an external fixation device was fitted, subsequently he was sent for treatment of purulent processes (infection) to an Odessa hospital. So far, Valeriy has had five operations on his hand.

Valeriy joined the ATO during the first wave of mobilization – March 24, last year, but its most difficult military operations called for the breakthrough of the encirclement near Donetsk airport last summer and the battle of Ilovaisk.

Valeriy – a former professional soldier – has a military engineering education and served under contract in the Balkans. After returning to civilian life he worked repairing mobile phones, installing security systems and video surveillance. However, the war in the east led to a shift in his plans. In his native Kirovograd waiting for Valeriy is his wife, his 14-year-old daughter and son, 20.
