Almost a fortnight ago, on May 26 a basic operation was carried our on the arm of the soldier using stem cell technology. Currently, the injured border guard, Evhen, has been discharged after his main stage of surgical treatment.
In August last year, Evhen was injured near Novoazovsk – he suffered a supracondylar nonunion fracture of the lower third of the humerus bone with a 20 square centimeter defect of bone tissue. Evhen’s elbow joint has been significantly damaged, and his hand has movement to only 15 ° – all as a result of articular fractures of the lower third of the humerus. To restore joint function to at least 70-80% and grow the bone, complex treatment using cellular technology is required. Within the first phase of his Bioengineering Rehabilitation for Wounded treatment the border guard underwent reparation to fracturing of the humerus, extrafocal transosseous osteosynthesis and sampling of cellular material (fibula bone fragments and red marrow). During Evhen’s basic operation in place of the left humerus defect autologous mesenchymal stromal cells were introduced.
The next X-rays will be taken in a month-and-a-half during Evhen’s routine medical examination. Now the fighter is at home and recovering his strength.
The People’s Project is extremely grateful to all who participated in the project! Thanks to your donations funds to the fighter’s treatment in the amount of 194,818 UAH were collected.
